Deborah Allwright
Deborah Allwright has illustrated over 40 picture books including There's a Monster in my Fridge, The Night Pirates and There is No Dragon in this Story, which has been shortlisted for an award! The Night Pirates was turned into a play by the Rose Theatre, London.
When she was a girl, she once snuck out of her cousins' house at night, climbed a fence and went riding on a neighbour's horse. She was never found out... until now!
Deborah says, "I start creating my characters by sketching them in pencil. I do many many versions until they look like they might spring to life. I usually colour them with gouache or acrylic paint and sometimes I also like to collage with different papers to give the illustration texture. Then for the final book illustrations I finish using my computer to make a good composition."
