Workshops and Visits
Why have an Author Visit?
The primary aim of my visit is to excite children about books, reading and writing. Lots of teachers have told me how amazed they are at the enthusiastic way in which even their most reluctant readers and writers have taken to the activities on the day, as well as the standard of work they have achieved.

My visit will be:
Fun - children learn more when they are having fun!
Interactive - lots of book-related activities for children to do
Inspiring - I talk about hard work, perseverance and achievement
Stimulating - encouraging children to come up with their own ideas, and value those ideas
Informative - learn what an author does, and how a book is made
Fun - did I already say that?

It will help:
generate enthusiasm for books and reading
stimulate creative thinking
improve children's creative confidence
generate new ideas for teachers

What People Say
"I was bowled over by how well the day worked. Your thought and planning ensured that every child in our large primary school enjoyed and engaged throughout the day. The whole school introduction assembly was great, interactive, at their level and the stories went down a treat. It is quite something looking at approx 400 pupils and seeing EVERYONE facing you and captivated!!"
Sandra Sambrook, St Mary's Catholic Primary School, Chesterfield

"It was amazing. I loved it. I would do it every day if I could!"
Noora, 9.

"Huge thank you from everyone at Old Vicarage School for the fantastic visit. It was thoroughly enjoyed by all and feedback (already from the parents) has been amazing."

Whole School Timetable
To ensure you get the very most from my visit, I will create a timetable especially for your school. This usually starts with a whole-school assembly, and is followed by a mixture of sessions led by me or by your own teachers.

Working in this format ensures that children get to participate in lots of book-related activities throughout the day, and also get individual time with me.

I often round up the day with a final assembly, where children can show each other what they have been doing and enjoy a final story before hometime.
What does it cost?
Workshops are £450 for a full day, or £350 for a half day plus travel expenses.

I can also do shorter visits for venues within about an hour's drive from my home in Derbyshire. Please check the Terms and Conditions before making a booking.
Teaching Resources
All the resources you will need during my visit are available on my website as downloadable files. Visit the Activities and Downloads area to find out more.

I will also let you know well in advance if you need to provide other materials or equipment.
